New Years Resolutions #2

So in my last New Years Resolution post I mentioned how most of us are setting ourselves up for failure by making resolutions we will never go through with and how we want to perfect everything in our life and anything short of that feels like a failure.

Well this year I’m saying goodbye to attitudes like that and hello to making resolutions. The trick is this year I won’t make resolutions that need my attention every day of the year or make me feel like crap if I don’t fully complete them. Last year I told myself I would write a journal for every day and I tried to be such a perfectionist about it so if I forgot a day I just would not write the next day until I had time to complete the day I was up to. Eventually when I had two weeks of entries to write I just gave up. I should also mention this was in January and it made me feel like I couldn’t complete anything and therefore I put less effort into my other resolutions. This year I have decided to make expectations for myself that I can complete and that even if I fall a little short it is the effort that counts.

This year I have four categories that I want to work on in my life. They are school, work, health and this blog.
Firstly for school I want to have the time to complete all assignments to the best of my efforts and pass all my classes, tests and exams. I want to hand up all homework and assignments (completed!) by the due date.
With work I want to get back into babysitting. Find a few more clients and not be afraid to put myself out there and ask around for jobs. I also want to find another job, preferably in the shopping centre near where my dad lives and not in the culinary industry.
Health wise I want to try being a vegetarian for the month of February and I also want to make the time to exercise more and find someone who will run with me so I don’t make excuses and actually get out and get fit.
And finally blog wise. With my blog I am making the resolution not to force myself to publish on a schedule or a certain amount of time per week/month, but to publish every blogpost I start and never give up half way through like I have done so many times in 2015.

French Journal 01-09-15

I ate the best bread I have ever eaten in my entire life today. This was after several mishaps due to my failure to understand French and general cowardliness in the asking department. Today of course was my first day at Lycée Lamarck. The day started off alright, although waking up at 6:15 is not my cup of tea. At least the cat didn’t bite or scotch me this morning. At 6:15 I rolled out of bed (careful to avoid the cat this time), I got dressed and went downstairs to the smell of, well nothing really. But there were croissants, brownies and pain ou chocolate on the table which was delicious. I swear I am going to get fat in France with all these bread based meals. I had a cup of tea with breakfast, frantically packed, and then we were off, a 7:30am! The boys got dropped off first at their l’ecole. I sat in the car for twenty minutes trying to conjure up internet on my phone. Unfortunately I am no witch. Then came the time for Florence (my host mother) to drive me to my lycée. We got there at a time when young teenagers of 15 or 16 would naturally be milling around the gate smoking. As you do. The laws are very lax in Europe!
After failing to find my name on the great board of names, Florence and I consulted the front office. They told us something in French (I do not know what) which prompted us to go back to the board and look for my name yet again. Quelle surprise it had not magically appeared. So off we trotted, me having no clue where we were going, to a room in a building which we stood outside for a bit, while it filled with people.
After a very awkward ten minutes of people staring I went inside with Florence and kind of stood around awkwardly. Are you sensing a theme here? Florence had to call work because she was late, so I sat down awkwardly next to a stranger who looked at me funny. Oh well what can you do?
The roll was called out for all the people in all the home classes in seconde (the year level I’m in) and surprisingly enough my name wasn’t called. So I had to continue sitting there awkwardly along with three other people, who had gravitated to the front whilst I stayed as far to the back as possible. Florence came back then and then she and I took a tour of the main office (a place I have been given a tour of three times today!). I went to do subject selection and chose Italian instead of Spanish, which may have been a good choice, I do not know. What I have realised is practically nobody has chosen Italian and I’m strongly suspecting there is a reason for that. Oh well I only have to sit it out for five months.
I then went to class where I was given an introduction that I barely understood and told to sit at the front. A prime position for people to stare at me. In class we went over our timetables, which made no sense and he talked about other stuff which also made no sense. Overall I understood about 5% of what people said to me today.
After an extremely long lesson where we also walked around the school a bit, we had lunch in the canteen. I had couscous with “legumes”, bread with cheese and a doughnut type thing. I sat with two girls who after realising I knew only a little French, ignored me the entire lunch and only spoke to me in English about twice. Not sitting with them again!
As I was walking back to my lesson my homeroom teacher introduced me to the German teacher, an exchange student from Germany and her host sister. This is when I got my second tour of the main office. We then went in to a room to discuss things and the English teacher came in to talk with me in English. It was hard to understand her (although I did understand everything). I think my mind is deteriorating.
I then went back to class where I was told somebody would show my where to catch my bus and two people agreed to help me understand my timetable. The bus thing turned out to be very unhelpful but I am yet to see how the timetable decrypting goes. The guy that offered has already said hello to me (in English) and seems nice, so I have high hopes.
The teacher then went on to talk about goodness knows what, I think some of it was math because he is a math teacher and I heard the word parabola. We then took a tour (my third) of the main office and other buildings around the school. Then it was time to go. The girl who had offered to show me where the bus was told me it came at five and where to wait for it. I never saw the bus. We got out at four so I waited an hour in the cold for a bus that never came and ten more minutes to make sure it wasn’t late before I texted Florence. She came and picked my up then I waited in her car while she finished work. Waiting in the car was boring (and stressful because my phone was going flat) but I put on inspiring music and felt a little better about missing the bus. I also played terribly addictive free apps until my phone warned me it was going to die.
It was still alive when Florence finished work and after she had cigarette we drove to the place of the best bread In The World. I ate some of the baguette as we drove home, and it was heaven. The outside crusty and golden, the inside light and fluffy. You cannot buy bread better than this.
We got home at about 6:50pm and I went straight to my room because frankly I am embarrassed about the whole bus incident.

Dinner was really delicious, potatoes and pork. Then came the usual of cheese and clearing the table. I was given the wifi password, so I watched the latest episode of awkward downstairs because the internet does not work up in my room. I checked emails and messages, watched the awkward episode one more time (it was really good) then finally at 11pm I went to sleep next to a cat who thinks I am the best scratching post ever!

Bali Shopping List

Image via: http://travelnoire.com/visit-balinese-temple/?hvid=6lOIST

So I'm going to Bali for a week in July and am staying near Ubud at a place called Kanti Villa. (http://www.villakanti.com/index.php) Because I am so excited about this holiday I have already started planning my outfits and sorting out what I need to buy.

What I need to take: Two comfy pairs of clothes for the plane trips there and back, an outfit for every day I'm there, something I can wear at night, a couple pairs of bathers + a cover up and, of course, pyjamas.

What I need to buy: A pair of sandals, sunglasses, a hat, workout pants (for yoga and bike riding) + some bathers and a coverup. So my shopping list looks a bit like the pictures below.

All of these items are available from http://www.boohoo.com/ unless sold out.

For my sandals, I want a black pair, comfortable to walk in and with a platform so I don't get my feet dirty. These are the perfect pair and at a reasonable price of $50AUD. They are exactly what I was looking for and will make it into my virtual shopping bag as soon as I have the money.

I'm not going to buy two kimonos nor will I buy these exact ones (I'm going to go thrift shopping with my mama soon) but they are just there to give you an idea of what I am looking for. They are both $30AUD which I think is a great price and I really love how colourful they are. Left kimono can be bought here and the right one can be bought here

I love these sunglasses and at $12AUD even if I only wore them in Bali they would pay for themselves. They will definitely be joining my shoes in the boohoo shopping basket.

For Bali, I want a colourful one piece and a bikini. At the moment, I am loving these two. I probably won't end up buying these, to be honest as if you buy bathers online you can't return them (with most stores anyway). I also like to try on my bathers before I buy them to make sure they fit, are comfortable and don't show too much skin. The bikini is from triangl and can be found here and the one piece is from boohoo (like everything else basically) and can be here. Although I do dream of one day owning a triangl bikini.

This is the hat I want to buy and can also be found on boohoo... no surprise there haha... I really like felt hats although I might buy one from my local shopping mall... so I can try it on.

This is it for this blog post but as soon as I have bought everything I need I will update you with pictures of outfits I will take.

Bye, for now, xx, Chantelle

Finding My Personal Style #1

So the other day as I was looking through beauty blogs I came across this website that not only has the classiest name, The Every Girl but also the cutest layout. Of course, I had to check it out and see what it was about. Whilst poking around (more like clicking actually) I found a post called '8 Tips to Help You Find Your Personal Style'. Now if you're like me and struggle to keep a wardrobe that you are 100% happy with you are always looking for tips on ways to update  and find your true personal style. So I thought why not? let's take a read and see if these tips are helpful. (Which they totally are!)

Here is the website and specific post if you are interested (It's worth a read).

Tip one was to 'seek inspiration' and make a Pinterest board called My Personal Style. The website then suggested I pin pictures of my top five style icons to that board. I chose (in order of left to right), Bethany Mota,  Zoella, Mr Kate,  Emma Watson and Tamara from the TV show, Awkward.

I made a folder on my laptop, saved pictures of each icon to that folder and then chose 10 photos of each person to upload to Pinterest.

The Every Girl then said to write down all the elements that these pictures had in common.

Elements in Common
Layering ~ A lot of outfits have many layers to stay warmer in winter
High-waisted ~ Bethany and Tamara have many high waisted skirts
Monochrome ~ white, grey and black have been used frequently on this board
Fun prints ~ Lots of fun mixed prints are used to bring style and character

I hope you enjoyed this blog post expect more soon, the next to be on tip 2: Clear up and Clear out.

My Favourite Lipbalms with Reviews.

If you didn't know... which you won't because I haven't mentioned it before... I am a very fussy person when it comes to lip balms. So fussy even that even pawpaw ointment won't cut it.
To be honest at the moment, I only have three lip balms that work for me (which is a lot compared to my usual number of one). They are The Body Shop - Born Lippy, Nivea - Essential Care and some unidentified one that my grandma gave me and is actually what the Australia Defense Force use (if she got her facts right).

The Body Shop - Born Lippy (Watermelon)

Not going to lie I haven't had this lip balm all that long... I got it on Sunday... but I am absolutely in love with it. First of all the packaging is really cute although I would have liked it better as a stick rather than in a pot. The scent is so amazing and it makes me want to eat it... more on that later... and so strong that I could smell it even before I opened the lid.
Now don't get me wrong I love this product, but it did take me a few applications before I knew it was making a difference to my lips.
The thing I love most about this product is the way it is moist but not sticky and leaves your lips really moisturized for a few hours after use.
The Body Shop claims that it moisturises and conditions lips, has a soft pink tint, a shiny finish, and a fruity watermelon flavor. It does moisturize and have a shiny finish but I would have to argue the soft pink tint... more of a pale shimmer... and although it tastes a little sweet it does not taste of watermelon.

This is my go-to lip product and what I use most of the time. Even though I try out other lip products I always go back to this. I actually don't have any at the moment :(. Because I dropped one in the toilet at school and melted the other one (with a hot Australian day). This product claims to have long lasting and intensive everyday care (Yes), effectively protects your lips from drying out in all weather conditions (Yes), includes Hydra IQ for deep moisturisation (I assume so as it does deeply moisturize). Overall this ticks all the boxes and is my second favorite lip balm... below unnamed one my grandma gave to me. Oh, and it also contains Jojoba Oil and natural Shea Butter which I love.

Unnamed Lipbalm
I'm only including this lip balm because this blog post is about my favorites and I would be lying to you if I didn't mention it. Basically, this is the same as the Nivea one but has a berry scent and a higher melting point which means you don't get quite so much on your lips (which I like).
Funny story because it's in orange packaging I was convinced the scent was orange for ages... my brain is weird.
